Introduction

These poems were produced by pupils of Miss Ooi, after work in class on the topic of aging.

When I am old, I will not look as good as before.
No one will recognise me, for sure.
People will say “Heh! Who’s that creepy-looking old man?”
The young ones will just giggle away at my long beard.
If only I were twenty years younger,
I would give them a piece of my mind.

When I’m old, I will have problems.
No one will take care of my problems.

The young ones will jeer at me.
I will want people to take care of me.
This is the only thing that I will want.

Introduction

The children studied a picture and then wrote sentences about it. The sentences then made up a paragraph.


There were three people in the living room. Amin and his younger sister were playing chess. Amin’s father was reading the newspaper. He was reading bad news and sitting on the sofa. Amin and his sister were sitting on the floor. It was raining. They put the chess set on the desk. Amin won the chess games.

Introduction:

The class was introduced to simple haiku poems, and then asked to write their own. This was their first attempt at writing them. One of two wrote more than 3 lines, so these poems are not really haikus. They were not told to write titles. They only had about 5 minutes to write them, at the end of a lesson, and they did not have very much guidance.

They have great handwriting and have obviously been taught very well by their teachers. They are such a lively, lovely class, they must be a joy to teach.

A kangaroo is a kind of animal. It has a long tail and keeps its baby inside its pouch. It likes to eat grass. It can be found in Australia. Many people like it very much.
